Business development that responds to reality—and humans.

NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Use as much heart as you do smarts to generate and encourage a healthy flow of clients and projects.

The current market demands new approaches, challenging any established reliance on “sales” tactics that are removed from the people making the work and separate from the folks fostering collaboration across teams and clients. The same approaches and ways of thinking are no longer achieving the same, once-lucrative results.

We identify untapped opportunities and illuminate new tactics to approach a challenging and changing market differently. We teach business and account development as a smart, human-centric, and fulfilling engagement, centered around helping other people solve their problems and accomplish their goals. We use methods and outlined actions based in part on our business development principles, building strong, repeat business informed equally by reality and values.

UNDERSTAND YOUR FOUNDATION

  • Why are previous tactics no longer working in today’s market?

  • What is your company’s true differentiator, how is it clearly expressed, and how does it solve tomorrow’s problems for clients?

  • How is your org structure and strategic planning helping or hindering business development?

  • Who should be fostering and nurturing client relationships and how can these approaches connect to business development?

CASE STUDY

Establishing Lasting Foundations

Client:

Thread Creative, an independent writing studio that harnesses the power of words and AI innovation to make more meaningful brands.

Engagement:

We advised the Thread leadership team on evolving their offerings in the face of market disruption, and expanding their business development strategies. In-depth conversations with the leadership team unearthed a unique competitive advantage that could be leveraged for new business, thought leadership, and focus in the craft.

In order to fulfill their newly articulated business goals, we also advised Thread’s Production leadership on how to galvanize key individuals with critical skills central to success. Alongside a vision and materials for an integrated Production discipline that is indispensable to business, we created a comprehensive framework and program for Producer Learning & Development, from junior to executive level.

Insight:

Clarify roles before building L&D programs.

It’s important for an organization to ensure the foundation for each discipline is established and sturdy before expecting more. The first step is to create (or update) and roll out materials to thoroughly communicate roles, responsibilities, skills, and leveling. Only after full clarity is established and communicated is your team ready to grow.
